Publicity Officer - Job Description
Reason for the PO’s Job:
The Publicity Officer (PO) is one of the six elected (volunteer) office bearers of ACT Walking for Pleasure Inc (the “Club”), and exists
primarily to ensure the Club’s membership is sustained at a level agreed by the President (currently 450 as at November 06).
The PO is Responsible For:
The PO is the primary interface between the Club and the general public by promoting the Club’s weekly activities in the press and the Clubs
web page, thus ensuring potential Club members obtain correct and timely information on the Club’s activities and are encouraged to join.
The PO is Responsible To:
The PO is directly responsible to the President and Vice President of the Club.
The PO’s Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The PO shall:
- Maintain and update the Club’s web page @ www.actwfp.org.au
- Maintain and update the Club’s e-mail @ actwfp@yahoo.com.au
- Place weekly notices of the Club’s walking future activities in the Canberra Times and the Chronicle.
- Answer and respond to the Club’s phone calls on the Club’s 1300 access number.
- Distribute Club’s brochures around public places (e.g., Community Centres, Libraries, doctors surgeries etc) at least four times a year.
- Ensure potential Club members are encouraged to join by providing them with overall description of Club’s activities and detailed information on Club walks and membership information.
- Attend General Meetings
The PO’s Knowledge and Skills Requisites:
The PO ideally should be someone who:
- Can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and has good interpersonal skills.
- Is positive and enthusiastic about the Club and its varied activities (and participates on a regular basis).
- Is well organised.
- Has good computing skills.
- Can integrate with and work with the Club Committee towards the overall benefit of the Club.
The PO’s Time Commitment Required:
The estimated time commitment the Club requires from the PO is approximately three hours per week (note - this includes regular Committee Meetings).
